What is Coaching?
Welcome to my first Sunday night blog, soon to become a regular blog along with a short 2 minute video to watch too!! Therefore, it doesn’t matter if you are a reader or a visual person, I hope you will get some value from my words in either the written or verbal form.
One of the most common misconceptions is people thinking coaching is the same as counselling along with the connotation that it’s therapy and needed to fix a trauma which may have happened in the past. As lawyers and legals, we like to be the problem solvers and not the problem ourselves, so we instantly think coaching will have nothing to offer for us as we don’t need therapy.
Coaching is actually completely different and forward thinking, where everyone and anyone can benefit. Even the most successful coaches in the world have their own coaches. My coach Emily said to me there are always ‘new devils with new levels’, meaning with every new success we have, there is another hurdle to cross and battle to be won. The battle is with ourselves not limiting or holding ourselves back from what we are truly capable of and from what we really want.
Our mind likes to keep us where we are, it uses the past to predict the future and limits us in more ways we can possibly imagine. Coaching is about mastering our mind and making it work for us.
